CLB1

A Glimpse into a Computing Equipment

In this tutorial, we shall learn about:

·         Hardware and the computer’s internal parts;

·         Software as instructions for the hardware;

·         Operating systems that manage the computer;

·         A program, an application and an app.

A computer is more than just another household appliance. The vast amount of information and possibilities can be overwhelming. But you can accomplish a lot with a computer, and using one can be a good experience. Do you remember the first time you switched from your mobile phone to a smartphone? This is now with a bigger screen that resembles a small ladies’ mirror. This is an electronic device that manipulates information, or data. It has the ability to store, retrieve, and process data.

It’s possible that you already know that you can use a computer or mobile tablet, e.g., iPad Air to type documents or write an essay, send email, play games, and browse the Web. One can also use it to edit or create spreadsheets, presentations, and even videos.

How to Setup Your Computer

In this tutorial, we shall learn abut:

·         How to use a keyboard and mouse after boosting up your computer;

·         Choice of an Internet service;

·         Purchasing of home Internet access;

·         Icons and what they represent;

·         Online Shopping;

·         Internet Banking and Phishing.

So, you have a new computer and you are ready to set it up. This may seem like an overwhelming and complicated task, but it’s actually a lot easier than you might think! Most computers are set up in a similar way, so it doesn’t matter what brand of computer you have. If you are setting up a new computer that’s still in the box, you will probably find a how-to guide that includes step-by-step details. Even if it didn’t include instructions, you can still set up the computer in a few easy steps.

The very first step is to turn on the computer. Make sure all the cables are plugged in correctly, and locate the power button. It is in a different place on every computer, but it will have the universal power button symbol

Once turned on, your computer takes time before it’s ready to use. You may see a few different displays flash on the screen. This process is called booting up, and it can take anywhere from 15 seconds to several minutes. Once the computer has booted up, it may be ready to use, or it may require you to log in. This means identifying yourself by typing your username or selecting your profile, then typing your password. If you have never logged in to your computer before, you may need to create an account.

A History of Computer Development and Digital Usage

In this tutorial, we have an opportunity to learn about:

·         How a computer may be either digital, analogue, or hybrid;

·         Chronological highlights in history of computer development;

·         The global digital landscape and usage;

·         Digital innovation

·         Components in a digital economy

The history of computers goes back over 200 years. At first theorised by mathematicians and entrepreneurs—during the 19th century—mechanical calculating machines were designed and built to solve the increasingly complex number-crunching challenges. The advancement of technology enabled ever more-complex computers by the early 20th century, and computers became larger and more powerful.

There is conclusive evidence that digital equipment, tools and resources canwhere effectively usedhelp small businesses and start-ups help improve organisational performance and income generation. At the same time, this can raise the speed and depth of learning in science and mathematics for primary and secondary age learners. Furthermore, with such large global audiences, social media services are becoming shoppable retail destinations, enabling businesses—big and small—to reach new audiences and potential customers. Leveraging the same data and algorithms, these services can deliver ads and product placements that are highly targeted and personalised.

Entrepreneurship is important to economic development and undeniably, there is a global drive to accelerate the growth and development of nations through innovation and creativity. Support for small and medium businesses has emerged as a top priority on the global agenda and are no longer seen as a threat to the established system. With that in mind, policymakers have long accepted that entrepreneurs and startup companies have a critical role to play as key drivers of economic growth in both developed and developing countries.

Computers have become an essential part of modern human life. Owing to the widespread use of computers in every sphere, life in today’s world would be unimaginable without them. Since their invention, they have evolved in terms of increased computing power and decreased size. There are many computer-uses in different fields of work. Engineers, accountants, architects, jewellers, ICT technicians and filmmakers all use computers to design organograms and other gadgets. Teachers, pastors, writers, and most office workers use computers for research, word processing and emailing. Small businesses and business start-ups can use computers as a point of sale and for general record keeping.
